Sit back, relax and enjoy! We have played from 2021/2022 until 2026/2027 (half season) with FC Viktoria 1889 in 3. Liga; nearly 6 years. A good time spending here. The long term vision was to become a stablish 3. Liga team and that was achieved. Resignation was the only option, not an easy decision, but the club was hard to make any progress. Where we failed:
- Gaining my first coaching license. As a journeyman, it’s really important, every year or two (at least) to gain something good from you; from the clubs you spend time. With FCV1889 we did not, because the club was in debt. Not sure if there is a bug, but other staff members has been started to gain more advanced coaching licenses (DoF had the responsibility for background staff courses) and was using club resources, while I was not allowed from board, because was in debt (1–2 mil euros every season).
- Sell a player. Right, if you wanna tackle down a debt you have to sell; but nearly no one was coming with good offer. That’s ok from me, about low offers, because AI trying to do the best for his club. The best offer was 40.000 euros and payment depth in two years. No. Especially in a team which was in the same division with me.
- Clearing the debt. Every year was around 1 to 2 million euros, low and max. In last season, before resignation; I have tried to cut down wages for players at 22.000€ per week despite allowing to spend 50.000€ per week. I have cut down staff wages as well, to 15.000€. I can’t do it lower, lower means it’s better to be relegated and be a semi-pro club rather than professional. Note: Staff wages does not being counted from the players wages.
That was the 3 failures. 2025/2026 was our best season with 53 points, some extremely good young loans from bigger clubs and with that team; finally we found the sweet spot with a Ralf Rangnick type of style tactic.
The journey continue, time to target UK that time and will be try to climb the leagues. Gain coaching license and the big dream to be happen. Taken the managerial role of FC Aris Thessalonikis, a childhood dream!
